Biography Of Pastor Joseph Adelakun
Pastor Joseph Adelakun (formerly Amusa Adelakun) was born on the 12th of June, 1949 into a Muslim family in Oyo state, Nigeria. His father was an devoted Muslim who married five wives and gave birth to sixteen children. The mother of Amusa Adelakun was the fourth wife and he was the only son that the mother gave birth to.
Though he is from a large family, his father was a highly disciplined and also a wealthy man. Pastor Adelakun always go out to hawk foodstuffs at a very young age. This was not because of poverty but as a way of training. Moreover, he was a very intelligent young boy.
Moreso, life became very tough for him and the family at large when his father died on the 7th of August, 1964. He was barely fifteen years old then. Hence, he couldn't continue his education due to financial hardship. Then he was told to do an apprenticeship in Kareem Electrical Engineering Service. He did his apprenticeship for two years (that is 1966-1968).
Though he was from a very disciplined home, but losing his father as at when he needed him most made him had a lopsided upbringing. He became friends with smokers who taught him smoking. Sooner than later, he was deep into smoking.
A year after rounding up his training as an apprentice, he joined the Nigerian Army. And when he was asked why? He said ,he joined so that he can die in the warfront. But reverse was the case because he was posted to work in the engineering regiment. This was after doing his training in Abeokuta. He had low self esteem due to circumstances around his early childhood and adolescence experience.
Sooner than later, he began smoking Indian hemp. And on one of his trips from an Indian hemp seller, in 1972, he came across a revival program that was hosted that The Christ Apostolic Church and he decided to just stay behind. At this time, the clergy in charge of the program was the famous Prophet S.O. Akande (also known as Baba Abiye).
After the close of the program, he got home and something strange happened to him. While he was sleeping that faithful night, he heard of someone talking with him. The person introduced himself as 'Jesus' who he knew then as "Prophet Isah".The voice assured him that if he will allow Him, he will make him great. Moreso, he will take him to great places.
Then he went and share this dream with his friends and they laughed him to scorn. They thought he has gone mad.
Little by little, he started going to church irrespective of the discouragement from his friends. Gradually, he stopped smoking and drinking; hence, he got born again. After his born again experience, he changed his name from Amusa to Joseph. Then he began to go through some spiritual experiences. God began to show him his future. At this time, he was still in the military.
Few years after (precisely 1976), he got transferred from to kaduna. On his arrival to Kaduna, he located The Christ Apostolic Church and he became very active in the choir. In 1982, he left the military so as to face his musical career. At this time, he has written several songs.
Upon his resignation, he put up a six-man crew (him inclusive) which he called "Ayewa International Gospel Singers" .
He released a song in 1984, titled "Amona tete maa bo" which is translated as " It is very early". This song brought his musical career to the limelight. At this time, he has moved from Kaduna to Lagos.
His pastoral ordination came up In 1989 in Christ Apostolic Church, Lagos State. In 1999, he was appointed as the Assistant General Superintendent. Though he is a pastor, he is still deep into his music ministry. As a matter of fact, he uses music as a tool for evangelism.
He received the Evergreen Award in 2014. Moreso, he has bagged several awards from within and outside Nigeria.
He is married to Mrs Clara O. Adelakun and they are blessed with four children: Emanuel, Josiah, Christiana and Joseph.

1. No matter how aweful your past is, your future is more beautiful than it.
2. One should be careful with the kind of friends one makes.
3. God has the blueprint of your future.
4. God doesn't consult with your past to determines your future.
5. Lend a voice to your potentials because it has in it the capacity to take you to prominent places.
